What is coaching?

Coaching is a useful way of developing your skills and abilities and boosting performance. It can also help deal with issues and challenges before they become major problems – it is recognised that dealing with issues in our personal lives can affect how we perform at work and therefore coaching will address both work related and personal issues.

Coaching is about facilitating the learning and development of others, enabling them to move forward, solve problems and improve performance by building on their current knowledge and skills. The ethos of effective coaching is not to try to ‘teach’ a person but allow them to learn by helping them to unlock their potential.

What we can offer you

We have a pool of trained and accredited coaches across all Trusts in the LAASP group waiting to start your coaching journey with you. You can access a coach either at your Trust / site, or from any of the other Trusts within the Group.

A coaching session will typically take place as a confidential conversation between you and the coach, and it focuses on helping you discover answers for yourself.

Coaches in the workplace are not counsellors, psychotherapists, gurus, teachers, trainers, or consultants – although they may use some of the same skills and tools. The coach’s role is to enable you to see opportunities to improve and identify practical ways to move forward.

Why access coaching?

There are a variety of reasons why you may wish to access coaching at any point in your career and this includes periods of change.  These may include, but are not limited to

  • Career development
  • Coping with change
  • Improving your confidence
  • Resilience
  • You are at a crossroads in your career
  • Looking for inspiration
  • Working on a project
  • Experiencing challenges.
